BLM - WM2020

#WhatMatters2020 was a political campaign designed to encourage members of the Black community to actively participate in the voting process as a way to advocate for change and address the issues that most directly affected their lives. The campaign emphasized the importance of civic engagement, especially during a time when many communities across the United States were facing social, economic, and racial challenges. By using the word “Matter,” the campaign intentionally connected its message to the organization Black Lives Matter, reinforcing the idea that the concerns, voices, and lives of Black individuals are significant and deserving of attention. The phrase “What Matters” served as a powerful symbol that represented the priorities of the Black community, including the ongoing fight for justice, peace, and equality. Through this message, the campaign sought to raise awareness, inspire action, and remind voters that participating in elections is one meaningful way to push for lasting social change.

#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy by combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
